Level 1: Start and join video meetings

Learn these basics to get started with Hangouts Meet.

MEDIA

Join with a meeting link URL

Join with Google Hangouts Meet, you can join an impromptu video meeting by clicking the meeting link URL sent to you via email.

1. Click the meeting link sent to you in a chat message or email.

2. Follow the onscreen prompts to join the meeting.

Enter a meeting code: xxx-xxxx-xxx

  1. In a web browser, enter https://meet.google.com.

  2. Click Use a meeting code.

The meeting code is the string of letters at the end of the meeting link. You don't have to enter the hyphens.

  1. Enter the meeting code and click Continue.

  2. Click Join meeting.


Cast a tab from Chrome
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More Cast.
  3. Choose the Chromecast device where you want to watch the content.
    • If you're already using the Chromecast, your content will replace what's on your TV.
  4. When you're done, to the right of the address bar, click Cast Stop casting.
What you'll see in Chrome
  • When your tab is being shown on a TV, you'll see Display .
  • To the right of the address bar, next to your extensions, you'll see Active Cast .
To use a shortcut in Chrome, add the Cast button.Cast videos and media
  1. On the video or media you're watching, click Cast .
  2. You'll see the video or images on your computer and TV, but you’ll only hear sound on your TV. Sounds for other tabs and apps will still play on your computer.
Cast your computer screenYou can display your entire computer screen using Chrome on Mac, Windows, and Chromebooks.Note: To hear audio on your TV, use a Windows computer.
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More Cast.
  3. At the top, next to "Cast to," click the Down arrow .
  4. Click Cast desktop.
  5. Choose the Chromecast device where you want to watch the content.
Cast music and videos from your computer
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More Cast.
  3. At the top, next to "Cast to," click the Down arrow .
  4. Click Cast file.
  5. Select a file.
  6. Choose your Chromecast device where you want the file to play.
